SPRINGFIELD --Dylan Lemen scrambled to the right, saw Andrew Good running the opposite way in the end zone and made one of the most difficult passes a quarterback can make — especially considering the circumstances — across his body to a moving target."Dylan can make a lot of things happen," Kenton Ridge coach Joel Marratta said.

This year, the Indians will have a chance to play spoiler against their Greene County rival. Continued at: CSA URBANA, Ohio -- The Urbana University football team hosts the first matchup of back-to-back weekday home games when Lake Erie College comes to town this week. Opening kickoff for the non-conference showdown is slated for 7 p.m. Thursday night at UU Stadium.
Prior to kickoff and throughout Thursday's game, UU will host a POW/MIA chair dedication and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) members and military branches recognition. All veterans and active duty, including National Guard and Reservist will receive free admission. UU (1-1) is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 45-7 loss at Fairmont State last Saturday. The Blue Knights are 2-1 all-time against Lake Erie and undefeated in non-conference games under head coach Tyler Haines. "We're really looking forward to getting back on track," Haines said. "It'll be a short week of preparation with only two practices, but we're coming back home under the lights and we plan to take care of business by playing our style of football, which is smash-mouth, fast, up-tempo and aggressive, and singing the fight song Thursday night." Last week, junior running back Isaiah Young (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne HS) rushed for a career-high 107 yards and junior wideout Jesse Bray (Springfield, Ohio/Wayne HS) hauled his second touchdown catch in as many games, but the Blue Knights could not sustain any type of momentum in their first road test. The Fighting Falcons (2-0) scored on five of their six drives in the first half while recording a punt return touchdown and blocked UU field goal attempt. FSU put the game on cruise control in the second half. The Blue Knights provided a few sparks, including a 63-yard connection between quarterback Eddie Stockett and wideout Kahliq Muhammad, and a 31-yard grab by Shemar Hooks. However, four consecutive turnovers following the second quarter touchdown sunk any hope of a comeback. Protecting the football will be a key point of emphasis "Last week was a tough loss for us, Fairmont State is a good football team," Haines said. "We had flashes of good things, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We were able to run the ball a little bit and had some big plays down the field. But, they were few and far between. We had a lot of mental mistakes and we are focused on improving them this week." UU enters the third week of the season averaging 147.5 yards rushing and 333 yards of total offense per contest. The Blue Knights will look to keep a balanced attack against the Storm with more consistent play out of Stockett (371 yds, 3 TD, 4 INT) behind center. The Blue Knights will also need to improve on its red-zone scoring after going just 1 for 5 through two games. Defensively, the Blue Knights are looking to dial up the pressure in order to get off the field more often. UU has allowed 394 yards pre game to opposing offenses including 169.5 yards on the ground. However, UU has some some success getting to the quarterback with three sacks in two games. Lake Erie, which has a 4-30 record since 2015, is still rebuilding under second-year head coach Gerald Hazzard. The Storm have only scored one touchdown through two games, coming off a 42-12 conference loss to Malone and shutout loss in the opener to Edinboro, 69-0. Quarterback Javarian Smith leads the offense with 140 passing yards per game and one touchdown, but has already been sacked 11 times. Defensive back Elems Ukwu leads the way with 23 total tackles and one tackle for loss. Single-game tickets cost $8 for general admission and $6 for ages 12 and under/65 and older. The game will air live on UUBlueKnights.com and simulcast on Campus Nation Sports Network. // SERIES HISTORY The Blue Knights hold a 2-1 series lead over the Storm with all three games played in Painesville, Ohio. Thursday night's meeting will be the first contest between the two schools played in Urbana with UU winning the previous two matchups under Coach Haines. Last year, UU came away with an easy 37-10 win for the largest margin of victory in the series by scoring 30 unanswered points. The Blue Knights blocked a punt, returned a punt for a touchdown and forced a safety. UU recorded a 33-30 triumph in 2015 and Lake Erie won the first-ever meeting in 2009 by a final score of 20-6. Va. -- Urbana University's Madison Davis has been selected the Mountain East Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Davis, a senior from Nelsonville, Ohio, led the Blue Knights to a 4-0 record last week including a thrilling five-set win over Ashland, who was receiving votes in the D2 national poll. Davis recorded a career-high 21 kills and just four errors (.405%) in the upset win over the Eagles and also posted 20 kills and only three errors (.586%) against Asbury last Saturday. In Friday's doubleheader sweep at Shawnee State, the senior middle/outside hitter tallied 19 kills, four blocks and four aces in a doubleheader sweep over Shawnee State, Overall, she averaged 3.75 kills per set during the week while registering a .385 hitting percentage, and she is currently ranked fifth in the MEC with an impressive .293 hitting percentage through 12 matches. The Blue Knights have won seven consecutive matches and return to action this weekend at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. 2018 MEC Volleyball Players Of The Week Aug. 27: Haley Kramer (WJU) Sept. 4: Peyton Lindblad (SU) Sept. 11: Madison Davis (UU) Courtesy of the Urbana University Media Department and posted with their permission URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University football team, searching for its first 2-0 start since 2012, will travel to Fairmont State University for Saturday's 1 p.m. conference showdown at Duvall-Rosier Field. The road opener for the Blue Knights can be followed online at UUBlueKnights.com.
Both teams are coming off season-opening victories. UU (1-0, 1-0 MEC) held on to defeat West Liberty 21-19 at UU Stadium last Thursday with an explosive first half. Junior wideout Kahliq Muhammad (Peoria, Ariz/Scottsdale CC) ignited the Blue and Grey with an 85-yard touchdown reception and 83-yard punt return for a score to stand out among many new faces. In addition, junior quarterback Eddie Stockett (McKeesport, Pa./IUP) made his first collegiate start, throwing for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns and interceptions. Stockett made an appearance last year against Fairmont State where he threw his first touchdown pass as a Blue Knight. On defense, the new-look Knights under first-year coordinator Joe Nemith made an early impact with three consecutive takeaways. Juniors Chris Richardson (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown HS) and Sherman Watson (Columbus, Ohio/Northland HS) each picked off a pass, and a forced fumble by redshirt-freshman safety Tobias Hailey Jr. (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS) led to a big return by junior linebacker Bozton Sanders (Peoria, Ariz./Scottsdale CC). UU limited the Hilltoppers to 209 passing yards. Last week, FSU (1-0, 0-0 MEC) traveled to Stonehill College (Mass.) and came away with a 34-19 triumph to start the season. The Fighting Falcons were led by redshirt junior quarterback Takwan Crews-Naylor, who enjoyed his best outing in a Falcon uniform completing 23-of-29 passes for a career-high 313 yards and two touchdowns. The Falcons, who are under the direction of sixth-year head coach Jason Woodman, were voted to finish second in the Mountain East Conference preseason poll with three first-place votes. // SERIES HISTORY FSU has claimed the previous four meetings with UU, including a narrow 27-24 win at UU Stadium in last year's matchup. The Falcons scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter as a last-second field goal capped the come-from-behind win. UU's only win in the series came in the first-ever meeting, a 41-5 home victory on Oct. 26, 2013. The series has historically been a close matchup as three of the five meetings have been decided by less than a touchdown. // PLAYER QUOTES Junior QB Eddie Stocket (McKeesport, Pa/IUP) On last week's win... "I thought we came out and played pretty solid in the first half. The guys were flying around, we were excited and wanted to come out and get the first win to start the season. The crowd and the atmosphere was something I haven't seen since I've been here." On the UU defense last week... "The defense stepped up in a huge way, my turnover in the fourth quarter was a dumb mistake, but when all 11 guys do their jobs that's what happens. I count on every one of them guys just like I know they count on me. The defense really carried the second half and that's why we were able to win the game." On keys to Saturday's matchup at Fairmont State... "One of the biggest keys is all 11 guys doing their jobs, that's really what it boils down to. We're all ready to get out there and keep proving every one wrong. Each week we go in hungry and ready to pretty much show that respect isn't given, it's earned." Junior DE Mikal Toliver (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne HS) On last week's win... "In the first half, we came out of the gates firing with three takeaways in the first three drives. That was amazing, I've never been apart of something like that. We gotta make sure this week that we come out stopping the run, that is our first focus right now just stop the run and then we can get to the pass. Obviously, we've got some good people that can rush the ball, some good defensive backs that can cover who had two interceptions." On keys to Saturday's matchup at Fairmont State... "They are a well-coached team, they have lots of good players, but as long as we execute I feel like we are one of the best teams in the conference. We have a lot of good talent so if we come out and execute like the first half of the last game, especially in those first three drives, the defense can get some turnovers and help the offense to score then that's all we have to do." Junior WR Kahliq Muhammad (Peoria, Ariz./Scottsdale CC) On last week's win... "It was a fun game, we're a new team, so it was definitely a learning experience for everybody, even the coaching staff so it was a good win for us." On playing his first game at Urbana... "Coming from a JUCO, this is what I've been dreaming about all my life, to play at a university level, so it was most definitely an experience I'll never forget." On Saturday's matchup with Fairmont State... "We just gotta play tough and fly around. I feel like we're going to come out with intensity and we'll be ready to go. We're a hungry team and we're coming for everybody in this conference." Courtesy of the Urbana University Media Department and posted with their permission.
